Mind Reading: Computer will Follow your Brain Thought. By IBM

IBM says that  in coming next 5 years span or by 2016 users will have  access to computers which can read human minds (brain) and be able to work according to brain signals. Keyboards and mouse may be the history in coming 5 years, and would be simply used in teaching of evolution of computers.

This isn’t telepathy, this would be the advancement of technology that to  get a real-time stream of thoughts from an individual and put into signals which computer will understand ,obey and work accordingly.  IBM researcher  are using a simple brain-machine interface (BMI) that can detect different kinds of brainwaves and tell a computer to respond a certain way.

IBM says it’s working on technology for people to use their brains to interface with their everyday devices, like phones and PCs. “Just think about calling someone, and it happens,” IBM promises in this video:

Ufone and Mobilink all set for 3G shift

Telecommunication giants Ufone and Mobilink have upgraded their telecom hardware and are all set for the third generation (3G) regime.

Huawei Pakistan Deputy CEO Colin Hu said that Ufone in the last two years purchased telecom equipment from Huawei and is ready to switch up a notch to 3G across the country.

The country’s largest telecom company, Mobilink, had been running on decade-old Motorola telecom equipment before the switch to Huawei equipment. The equipment has not been entirely replaced but Mobilink is ready to switch in all major cities of the country, said Hu.

He confidently said that Huawei could switch to the new spectrum within a month of approval of 3G licence. However, an expert pointed out that this was quite a complicated process and that a month might be a bit unrealistic.

The government earlier this month constituted yet another committee to resolve the dispute over auction of 3G advanced services mobile phone licences.

Differences have surfaced over the interpretation of an agreement between the government and Etisalat on sale of shares of the state-owned telecommunication company.

The telecom giant was of the opinion that the government could not sell a new telecom licence for any spectrum until seven years, which would end in March 2013, but the government has taken the position that 3G licence is not something new, but actually an extension of existing services.

There are a number of projects in progress as part of this enhancement process, said Mobilink spokesperson while responding to a query. “Part of this upgrading also ensures that our networks are 3G upgradeable when the eventual shift to 3G is undertaken,” the spokesperson added.

Ufone spokesperson refused to comment on the issue.

Hu further explained that Huawei is one of the major telecom players in Pakistan with more than 60 per cent market share in telecom and hardware solutions. Given this, he said that the company will be a major fixture in the 3G and later 4G (LTE) rollout in Pakistan. Huawei has been growing exponentially over the last 13 years in Pakistan at a time when other companies in the sector are having quite a difficult time in recession, said Hu.

Huawei is also on the verge of launching its enterprise business portfolio in the hope of competing with information and communication technology competitors like Cisco and Juniper.

Huawei is aiming to provide solutions to all banks, government departments and different verticals of the industry, said the Chinese tech giant’s Deputy Chief Technology Officer, Faisal Ameer Malik. He added that they want to have 30-40% of the enterprise business by next year.

Yousaf Raza Gillani gives Pakistan's 3G Policy green light.

Prime minister has given in-principle approval to the terms of a 3G policy, including allowing foreign participation in an upcoming spectrum auction.

The terms, which still require several stages of approvals, lay the ground for the auction of an initial three 10 MHz blocks of 3G spectrum, Associated Press of Pakistan said.

The auction would be open to both existing operations and prospective new international market entrants.

But any new players winning spectrum in the auction would not be eligible to commence operations until after March 2013, when a moratorium on the issue of new telecom licenses lapses.

There is however one existing telecom license up for grabs. The government also plans to auction off the defunct license once owned by Pakistan's Instaphone.

The government revoked Instaphone's license in 2008 alleging failure to pay outstanding dues. Instaphone appealed the move, but lost.

The terms also specify the auction of more 3G or 4G spectrum in the future, with an aim of allocating licenses by March 2013, so that services can start shortly after the moratorium expires.

Those with a high IQ have a fondness for Opera

Can we determine the intelligence of an individual based on the Web browser they use? The psychometric assessment company AptiQuant has attempted to prove this hypothesis. It has undertaken a study of more than 100,000 people in order to evaluate the intelligence quotient (IQ) of users based on their preferred system for browsing the Internet.

The results of this ridiculous study, aiming on the face of it just to raise a smile, show that surfers with a higher IQ browsed with "Opera" (average score 126.5). "Camino", the browser designed by Mozilla for Mac OS (124.4), "Safari" (113.5), "Chrome" (111.2) and "Firefox" (108.7).

The various versions of "Internet Explorer" were all used by people with a lower IQ, and at the bottom end of the scale "Internet Explorer 6" (82). Upset by this, fans of Microsoft's browser are threatening to take out a lawsuit against AptiQuant!
